Ilminster Avenue Star Room Spider Making Workshop

Nov 25, 2025

Our spider making workshop was an opportunity for parents to come into nursery to experience the learning their children are involved in, strengthening home-school connections and showing families the rich learning taking place every day. This term the children have been learning nursery rhymes, developing their language skills and memory through repetition and rhythm.

Families made spiders together that they can play with at home and use to retell “Incy Wincy Spider” and “Little Miss Muffet,” extending the learning beyond nursery and creating shared experiences. Learning nursery rhymes is really helpful for children to develop their vocabulary, gain confidence, and develop memory skills through the engaging patterns and rhymes.

The children have explored new words such as “water spout” and “tuffet,” discovering vocabulary they might not encounter in everyday conversation, and had fun acting out the rhymes with movement and expression. We love having all the parents come to work with the children and seeing the amazing spiders that are made! We hope you enjoy playing with your children with the spiders at home.
