Star Room Explores Creative Model Making

May 23, 2025

The children in Star Room have been busy developing their construction and design skills as part of this term’s curriculum goal “Make a Model”. Throughout the term, they have been exploring different ways to join and attach materials to create imaginative models, discovering various techniques and approaches along the way.

The children have shown remarkable progress in their planning abilities, learning to think ahead about what their model might look like and identifying the resources they will need to bring their creative ideas to life. Their fantastic imaginations have truly shone through in the diverse range of models they have produced.

An exciting highlight of this term has been the introduction of real woodworking tools. The children have been learning essential safety skills when using hammers and nails, taking their first steps into practical woodwork. This hands-on experience has captured their enthusiasm and provided valuable learning opportunities about tool safety and craftsmanship.

We are thrilled with how much the children have achieved in such a short time. Next term, they will continue to develop their woodworking skills further, building upon the solid foundation they have established. We look forward to seeing their models evolve as they gain confidence and expertise with these new tools and techniques.
