Welcome from the Heads

Welcome from the Heads

Welcome to our newly designed website we hope that you will find it useful and that it gives you further insight into our wonderful nursery, the children, families and staff who are part of our learning community.

Ilminster Specialist Nursery School has been part of the community for many years and we are privileged to work with parents and staff who remember the school from its earliest days. The building provides opportunities for children and adults to learn together in class bases, access shared areas for creative investigations and an outside space that provides a real sense of openness and opportunities to explore and find out about a range of natural materials including open sand and water areas. We are continually striving to make our nursery a safe and nurturing environment and to maximize every area for our children and partners, including local childminders.

As a specialist nursery school we are able to celebrate children’s achievements and their development in an inclusive and welcoming environment. Our on-site partnership with health colleagues also means that families can access services through a referral process. We welcome families from across the community and our staff are here to support and provide a reassuring presence and where appropriate can also sign post to local services.

We welcome children and families from 2 year olds onwards and within the specialist provision we have children from reception to Year 2.

As Acting Head teachers it gives us great pleasure and professional pride to work with such an experienced staff team and currently we are working with key external partners, including New Fosseway, Knowle West Early Years Centre and Southern Links Children’s Centre to strengthen our partnership working with children and families.

I (Trish) have been involved in education for over 30 years and passionately believe in the unique nature of each child and celebrating with them their learning journey. I am inspired by our children’s fascination with their world and encourage their learning to develop with us and through our parents in their home and community. As an inclusive setting we pride ourselves on our happy welcoming atmosphere that enables students to feel secure and valued. They then have the courage to make progress. We involve the children in all aspects of nursery and school life enabling them to be the best they can be.

I (Matt) am extremely pleased and excited to be working with the families, children and staff team at Ilminster Avenue Specialist Nursery. I currently hold the role of Deputy Head at Knowle West Children’s Centre and Nursery School and enjoy being involved in Early Years Education across south Bristol. I am also a Specialist Leader in Education and have had the privilege of mentoring and developing many settings across Bristol from baby rooms to Reception Classes. I am passionate that Early Years education needs to be of the highest quality and have the most nurturing and thoughtful practitioners, and after working with colleagues at Ilminster Avenue for many years I know this is the case in this school.

I think what excites me most about the opportunity of working at Ilminster Avenue Specialist Nursery is the chance to meet new children and adults, find out new ways of working and learning and make sure that children, families and staff all grow to reach their full potential in a busy and ever-changing world. You will find me approachable and I look forward to getting to know all of you in the wider community of Ilminster Avenue Specialist Nursery.

I also bring with me Jake the Dog, who many children and parents already know. Jake was trained as a Hearing Dog for the Deaf and he works across many schools, nurseries and community groups across Bristol. He is very gentle and always brings out the caring and gentle side in everyone he meets.

The governing body are working to develop strong relationships with staff and are seeking new and initiative ways to listen to staff and community voices in order to represent the school and community.
